$TRUMP Controversy: Foreign Wallets Dominate Guest List for Private Dinner
President Donald Trump’s invitation to the top 220 holders of his $TRUMP meme coin to a private dinner on May 22, 2025, at his Virginia golf club has led to a major controversy.
The potential invitation of foreign nationals has raised questions of political access and ethics. The event, which includes a VIP tour for the top 25 holders, has caught the attention of lawmakers and ethics monitors.
Foreign Wallets Dominate Top $TRUMP Holder List
A recent analysis published on May 7, 2025, found that 56% of the top 220 $TRUMP token holders, around 123 wallets, use exchanges that are not U.S.-based such as Binance, Bybit, and OKX.

These wallets account for 76% of the token value in this group, which suggests the presence of foreign nationals or U.S. citizens abroad.
Among the top 25 holders, 19 were from foreign exchanges, which also shows that non-U.S. investors may dominate the guest list. The study also identified 436 transactions exceeding $100,000 in the five days following the dinner announcement, with the largest linked to non-U.S. exchanges.
The event’s official website mandates a background check for attendees and excludes individuals from Know Your Customer (KYC) watchlist countries.
However, the vetting process’s ability to screen out foreign nationals remains unclear, leaving speculation about the attendee list. The leaderboard is open and provides transparency about the rankings but says nothing regarding the nationalities of attendees.
Congress Demands Answers on Meme Coin Event Â
The prospect of foreign nationals attending has created a serious ethics concern, with critics describing the event as a potential “pay to play†arrangement.
On April 25, 2025, Senators Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren called for an investigation by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, citing risks of selling presidential access to foreign powers and corporate interests.
Their letter expresses concerns that the dinner could allow undue influence, particularly in the context of Trump’s attempts to ease cryptocurrency regulations.
Even some Republicans, including Senator Cynthia Lummis, have expressed unease about the $TRUMP dinner. One senator is calling for Trump’s impeachment for potential conflicts of interest.
The controversy has increased due to the president’s family’s cryptocurrency dealings, including connections to foreign exchanges like Binance, which is restricted in the United States.
What Trump’s Crypto Gala Means for Politics
Following the dinner announcement, the $TRUMP meme coin surged from $9 to $14 and currently trades for $12.14 on May 8, 2025.
The dinner event has started debates about the intersection of politics and cryptocurrency, with critics arguing it undermines democratic integrity and principles.
With the final guest list undisclosed and a high proportion of tokens held by foreign investors, concerns remain that international attendees could gain unprecedented access to the president, with calls for better transparency and regulatory oversight.
