Self-Custody and Cashback: Inside MetaMask Card’s Features
The card brings in its self-custodial wallets, allowing users to retain control of their assets until the point of transaction—unlike traditional crypto cards that often require preloaded accounts or exchange conversions.
Transactions on the card will occur instantly, relying on Mastercard’s extensive payment network. The card also provides 1% crypto cashback on purchases and the option to earn yield on wallet balances.

The card can be accessed through the MetaMask Portfolio app, although some traders have noted a mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) process is required, which has caused controversy among decentralization supporters.
Features like usability and rewards make the card a practical breakthrough for mass adoption of crypto.
Argentina’s Crypto Push: Economic Woes Meet Innovation
Argentina’s involvement in the card launch comes at a time when the nation is facing economic challenges, including high inflation and currency instability, which have driven interest in digital assets.
This follows earlier efforts like Binance’s 2022 prepaid card launch in the country, though MetaMask offers greater user control and rewards.

With MetaMask’s 30 million users worldwide, the card could increase crypto uptake across Latin America and potentially ease the reliance on traditional banking systems. However, the KYC limitation has been faulted by some users, pointing out that it undermines crypto’s decentralized nature.
As of March 31, 2025, the card’s reception and popularity remain positive, with the wallet’s Help Center confirming eligibility for Argentine residents.
